I love to cook, so we do quite a bit of dining in. The idea of going out for dinner on our anniversary did cross my mind, but not nearly as much as preparing a canvas of tastes in my own kitchen, surrounded by my own music, the antics of our crazy pets, and the company of my longtime friend.
On the menu at Culinaires de Gary were pan fried Caborita Crab Cakes with just a splash of a light lime, basil, and white wine cream sauce. I've been wanting to top my crab cakes off with a light authentic sauce for years. Last night the waiting and wanting ended. I came up with my homemade recipe combining several of my favorite ingredients and flavors. It was over the top deeee-licious and accented the meal perfectly.
For side dishes, I served oven baked potatoes with sour cream, butter, sprinkled with chopped basil; and fried green garden picked tomatoes. She sipped a glass of French red wine before and during our meal and I had my traditional O'doul's.
The meal, the company, and the setting was perfect… just as it should be.
