the long cold wait by admin

I've wanted to photograph this setting for months. I drive past it a few times everyday. I've always thought if I could catch the right light, it could be a really nice shoot. Today as I drove home from church, the setting welcomed me once again. The afternoon light was perfect. With my camera sitting beside me, I realized that today was the day I'd been waiting for.

During the months of wanting to shoot here, I never imagined I'd be doing so while wearing a suit and a tie, not to mention on a day when the wind chill was nearing 20 degrees. Lesson learned. Be prepared for the moment.

Last night's news of Gerry Rafferty's death left me with a feeling of loss, remembrance, and celebration. I connect with his music and lyrics. I always have. They belong to me.

I celebrated by queuing up my turntable last night, and carefully listening to North and South and Stealer's Wheel.

Again, as always... it was perfect. It was honest. It was real. Gerry's distinct voice and the beauty from his delicately crying guitar have always been my best friends. Especially when I needed one. I'll miss his art.

The iridescent green sky captured in this image seems to pay an homage to Baker Street.

I started my morning by listening to a 2007 recorded performance of Los Lobos Acoustic En Vivo. What a spirited show. Aside from being a big fan of their music, I've always loved their album cover artwork. Everything is so incredibly well designed. The layouts and photography are stunning and always well balanced. And from the eye of a typography junkie, these guys always do it right.
